Protein

Generally all gene and protein sequences can be used for the conversion of biological sequences into MIDI data which are subsequently used for sound annotation.

Currently we use the amino acid sequences of a protein called "alcohol dehydrogenase" (ADH). This protein has enzymatic function in almost all known organisms. Everybody knows the function of this enzyme since it is responsible for the degradation of alcohol (Alcohol + NAD+ <=> Aldehyde + NADH + H+).

and type in "EC 1.1.1.1", which is an international classification code for this protein, into the search line with choosing "ENZYME" in the database.

The choice of this protein was rather random.
The only pre-requisite at this stage of the project was to find a protein that is common to all organisms we want to use in our sound installation.
